General informations

Etna Extreme – 100 del Vulcano is a running event along the streets of the Etna Park. Distance 100km; D+/- 2,450 m.

The routes are almost entirely on asphalt.

To safeguard your own safety, you have the obligation not to stray from the route. The competitor who moves away from the marked roads is no longer under the responsibility of the Organisation. Kilometers are marked approximately every 5 km. Competitors must strictly respect the marked race route, avoiding taking shortcuts or cutting sections of the route. Departure from the official route, in addition to entailing sanctions, will take place at the competitor’s sole risk.

The tests will take place in any weather condition that does not put the safety of the participants at serious risk.

The timetable may undergo variations, based on contingent situations, which will be communicated at the briefing.

Competitors have the obligation to provide any assistance to participants in difficulty.

The bib must be worn on the chest or belly and always and entirely visible throughout the race. It must therefore be placed over all clothing and under no circumstances fixed on the bag or on a leg. Sponsors must not be changed or hidden.

It is forbidden to be accompanied on the route by a person who is not regularly registered.

It is prohibited to receive food or liquids outside the refreshment points.

For safety reasons, the use of headphones to listen to iPods or similar devices is not permitted.

The route will not be closed to vehicular traffic, competitors are required to respect the highway code.

In case of abandoning the race along the route, the competitor is obliged to communicate his abandonment by being registered as having withdrawn at the nearest control post; the organization will take care of your return from the checkpoint itself upon arrival.

Each competitor expressly renounces the right to exercise their image rights during the tests as well as renounces any appeal against the organization and its authorized partners for the use made of their image.

Participation

Participation is permitted to FIDAL and ACSI members in possession of a medical certificate for competitive activity. Non-FIDAL or ACSI members can participate by requesting ACSI membership by sending a copy of their identity document, tax code and medical certificate for competitive sporting activity.

Cancellation

In the event of cancellation of the race due to force majeure 12 days or more before the race, the Organization undertakes to refund 50% of the registration fee paid.

In case of cancellation due to force majeure less than 12 days before the race, no refund will be due to the participants.
In the event of interruption or cancellation of the race for atmospheric reasons, or for any other reason independent of the Organisation, no refund will be due to the participants.
If the event is recovered at a future date, the organization will decide whether to retain the entire fee of those already registered, or apply a reinstatement fee based on the expenses already incurred by the organization.

Safety and control

On the route there will be organization staff in constant contact with the base. Ambulances with paramedical staff will be stationed at various points along the route, as well as at the start and finish. Control points will be set up along the route, where organization staff will monitor the passage of the athletes.

Environment

The race takes place partly within fully protected natural parks and ecosystems. Competitors must behave in an environmentally friendly manner. It is forbidden to scatter rubbish, collect plants and flowers, remove rocks or disturb fauna. Anyone caught breaking the rules of conduct in the Park, in addition to incurring the sanctions of the race, will incur any sanctions provided for by the Park regulations.

Along the entire route, near each refreshment point, waste bins will be allocated where competitors are obliged to throw away used glasses and any other waste.

Weather conditions

The organization reserves the right to suspend or cancel the race if the weather conditions put the safety of the participants, volunteers or rescuers at risk.

    The equipment check will be carried out when collecting the bib. The race bib will not be given to anyone who does not show all the mandatory equipment to the staff.

Maximum time and time gates

The maximum time to complete the race is set at 20 hours.

Three time gates will be established:

  • at km 31: it will be possible to pass until 5.30
  • at km 50: it will be possible to pass until 9.00
  • at km 88: it will be possible to pass until 5pm

Services along the route will be available until 8pm on race day for those who get through the gates in time. A broom service will travel along the route following the last competitor, in order to help those who have retired and prevent any injured people from being left without assistance.

Withdrawals

Competitors who arrive at the gates outside the time limit, injured people, those who are judged by the medical staff to be unfit to continue the race, and other athletes who wish to withdraw voluntarily, must do so at the nearest refreshment point. From there, they will be accompanied to their arrival via a shuttle service. It is possible that, for logistical reasons, the withdrawn competitors will have to wait some time before being brought back to the finish area. Any competitor who withdraws from the race outside the pre-established points will have to return to the finish area on their own behalf, immediately communicating their withdrawal.

Refreshments

There are refreshment points approximately every 5 km.

Only competitors with a clearly visible bib have access to the refreshment point.
Refreshment food and drinks must be consumed on site; it is forbidden to drink directly from refreshment bottles; waste must be thrown into the appropriate containers.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the first 3 men and the first 3 women in the general ranking and to the first 3 in the category. Medal for all finishers.

There are no cash prizes.

Complaints

Any complaints must be submitted in writing to the circuit’s organizational secretariat within 30 minutes of the posting of the ranking in the arrival area, paying a deposit of €20.00 which will be returned only if the complaint is accepted.

Image rights

By registering, competitors authorize the organization to use free of charge, without territorial and time limits, still and moving images portraying them during their participation in the ETNA EXTREME – 100 km of the Volcano.

Declaration of responsibility

Voluntary registration and consequent participation in the race indicate full acceptance of these regulations and any changes made. By registering, the participant exempts the organizers from any liability, both civil and criminal, for damage to people and/or things caused or derived by him.
